  • 1Recall prior knowledge about rocks and their physical properties in everyday Ghanaian environments
  • 2Show learners a handful of small pebbles and ask: What do you see? Where do you find rocks like these in Ghana? Learners whisper answers to their partner
  • USES OF ROCKS IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION
  • 1Write on the chalkboard: ROCKS IN ROADS. Display three pictures from the Textbook showing crushed rocks, foundation stones, and finished road surface. Ask: Which part of the road do you think uses rocks? Learners point to the pictures
  • 2Read aloud from the Exercise book the two main uses: (1) crushed rocks form the base layer under roads, and (2) rocks provide strength so roads do not crack easily. Learners repeat chorally twice
  • 3Show Kofi's scenario on the chalkboard: Kofi's father is building a road from Makola Market to the lorry park. Why would he use crushed rocks first, not dirt? Learners discuss in pairs for 90 seconds, then one representative from each group shares why rocks are stronger than soil
  • 1Textbook (pictures of road construction)
  • 2Exercise book
  • 3Chalkboard
  • 4Small pebbles or stones
  • 1Ask three learners to role play: one is a road contractor, two are rocks. The contractor picks up the rocks and places them on the ground, explaining they make the road strong. Class watches and nods agreement
  • 2Learners complete this sentence in their Exercise books: Rocks are used in roads because they are _______. Collect responses and read two aloud (strong, hard, long-lasting)
Exercise
  • 1Name one place in Ghana where you have seen a road being built, and explain what you think the rocks were used for in that road in their exercise books.

  • 1Identify the unique physical and personal qualities that make each individual special
  • 2Ask learners to stand and look at their classmates, then whisper to their partner three ways they are different from each other (height, skin colour, hair texture, interests, skills)
  • RECOGNISING GOD-GIVEN UNIQUENESS
  • 1Display the textbook picture showing children of different heights, colours, and abilities; ask learners to describe what they see using exercise books to list five differences they observe between the children in the image
  • 2Call on representatives from each group to read one difference aloud; confirm that God created each person unique and special, using Esi's example from the textbook: 'My name is Esi, I am black and beautiful, there is no one like me.'
  • 3Learners stand in five lines arranged by height (shortest to tallest); discuss how this physical difference shows God's creative design and that no two people are exactly the same. Use Textbook during the task
  • 1Textbook
  • 2Exercise book
  • 3Chalkboard
  • 1Learners sit in a circle and each whispers one special quality about themselves (e.g. 'I am a good friend,' 'I am intelligent,' 'I am strong') to the person next to them
  • 2Ask: How can you use your special God-given qualities to serve others and live in harmony with your classmates?
Exercise
  • 1Write or draw one way you are unique and special, then write one sentence explaining how you can use that quality to help others in their exercise books.
