  • 1Recall examples of cultural practices shared between Ghana and neighbouring West African countries
  • 2Display pictures of Christmas celebrations, Eid-ul-Adha, and traditional Ghanaian festivals on the chalkboard; ask learners to name which celebrations they recognise and which countries also celebrate them
  • IDENTIFYING SHARED FESTIVALS AND FOOD WITH OUR NEIGHBOURS
  • 1Write on the chalkboard three headings: Festivals, Food, Dressing; under Festivals write Christmas and Eid-ul-Adha; ask learners to copy these into their exercise books and add one more festival they know is celebrated in Ghana and Burkina Faso or Côte d'Ivoire
  • 2Read aloud from the textbook examples of gari, cassava, and yam as shared foods; learners tick in their exercise books which foods their family eats
  • 3Show images of kaba and slit and smock on the chalkboard; learners discuss with a partner which neighbours wear similar traditional dressing and why (trade routes, cultural closeness)
