  • 1Recall examples of people in authority in their own lives and immediate surroundings
  • 2Ask learners to whisper the name of ONE person they obey at home to their partner, then call on 3 volunteers to share aloud (e.g. Mama, Papa, Ama's uncle)
  • AUTHORITY FIGURES IN FOUR SETTINGS
  • 1Write four headings on chalkboard: HOME, SCHOOL, COMMUNITY, STATE. Under each, list examples: HOME (parents, grandparents, uncles, aunties); SCHOOL (headteacher, teachers, prefects); COMMUNITY (chiefs, pastors, Imams, Assembly members, police); STATE (President, Speaker of Parliament, Members of Parliament). Learners copy into exercise books
  • 2Ask: Who gives orders at school? Call on a learner to name the headteacher and one teacher. Ask: Why must we listen to them? Prompt: to keep order, to learn well. Use Textbook during the task.
  • 3Organise learners into 3 mixed groups. Distribute textbook pages on authority. Each group reads one setting (HOME, SCHOOL, or COMMUNITY) and discusses why people obey that authority figure

  • 1Call on one representative from each group to share ONE reason their group found for obeying authority in their assigned setting (e.g. 'We obey teachers because they teach us to be smart')
  • 2Whole class repeats chorally: 'Respect and obey = peace and harmony' three times

  • 1In one sentence, name ONE person in authority at your school and write ONE reason why you should obey them in their exercise books.
