  • 1Recall what money is and name forms of money learners have seen in Ghana
  • 2Display three Ghanaian currency notes (GH₵5, GH₵10, GH₵20) and three coins (GH₵1, 50p, 20p) on the board; ask learners to shout out what they are and where they have seen them used
  • UNDERSTANDING MONEY AND ITS USEFULNESS
  • 1Write on the board: Money is anything accepted as legal tender that can be used as a medium of exchange. Read the sentence aloud; learners repeat chorally twice. Open the Textbook to the section on Money and read the definition together
  • 2Display a chart listing five usefulness points: (1) acquire basic needs (food, clothing, shelter), (2) motivate people to work, (3) help the poor and needy, (4) prepare for the future (retirement, savings), (5) promote God's work. Learners copy the list into their Exercise books
  • 3Ask: Which of these five reasons for using money is most important in your family? Learners turn to a peer and discuss for one minute, then a volunteer from the back of the class shares their answer
  • 1Ghanaian currency notes and coins
  • 2Textbook (Money section)
  • 3Chart of five usefulness points
  • 4Exercise books
  • 1Learners stand and form four groups by counting 1–4; each group receives one usefulness point to act out without speaking (e.g., Group 1 mimes buying food at a market stall); other learners guess which usefulness they are showing
  • 2Call on a learner who has not yet contributed to state one complete sentence: Money is useful because…, using one reason from the chart
Exercise
  • 1In your Exercise book, write the meaning of money in one sentence and list three ways money is useful in your community
