  • 1Recall common health problems that can result from prolonged use of computing devices
  • 2Ask learners to sit at their desks in their usual computer position and freeze for 10 seconds. Invite them to notice which parts of their body feel uncomfortable or strained
  • IDENTIFYING HEALTH HAZARDS AND DISORDERS FROM ICT USE
  • 1Display a short video clip (2– ) on the projector showing common computing-related disorders such as eye strain, neck pain, and repetitive strain injury (RSI). As learners watch, they list one disorder they observe in their exercise books. Ask one learner from each row to read their answer aloud while you write all disorders on the board
  • 2Distribute the Textbook and ask learners to read the section on health hazards of ICT tools in pairs. Each pair identifies and writes down three specific health risks mentioned (for example: eye strain from screen glare, wrist pain from keyboard use, back pain from poor chair height). Invite a representative from three different pairs to share their findings with the class
  • 3Struggling learners: provide a worksheet with three health hazards already listed; they add only one preventive measure for each.
  • 1Computer/Laptop
  • 2Projector
  • 3Textbook
  • 4Internet connection
  • 1Learners stand up and practise the correct sitting posture for computer use: feet flat on floor, back straight, screen at eye level, arms at 90 degrees. Ask: How does this posture feel different from how you usually sit? Learners discuss with a neighbour
  • 2Display a checklist on the projector titled 'Health and Safety Rules for Computing' (e.g. take a break every hour, adjust monitor brightness, keep good posture). Learners tick off three rules they will follow starting today and write their names
Exercise
  • 1Kofi spends 4 hours daily at a computer for schoolwork without breaks. Describe two health disorders Kofi might develop and suggest two preventive measures he should take in their exercise books.
