  • 1Learners will identify common health hazards associated with prolonged use of computing devices
  • 2Ask learners: What discomfort do you feel after using a computer or phone for a long time? Learners share answers aloud (headache, back pain, tired eyes). Write three answers on the board and circle them
  • HEALTH HAZARDS AND COMPUTING-RELATED DISORDERS
  • 1Display a video on health hazards of prolonged computing device use via the projector and internet connection. Learners watch and list three health problems they see (examples: eye strain, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome). Pause after and ask: Which part of the body is affected in this scene?
  • 2Provide each learner with a textbook and ask them to read the section on computing-related disorders. Learners identify and write down four disorders: eye strain, repetitive strain injury (RSI), poor posture, and headaches. A volunteer from the back of the class reads one disorder aloud; the class repeats the definition chorally
  • 3Struggling learners: work with the teacher to identify only two disorders using visual prompts from the textbook.
  • 1Computer/Laptop
  • 2Projector
  • 3Internet connection
  • 4Textbook
  • 5Health hazard video (3 minutes)
  • 1Learners stand and mime three correct ergonomic practices at a computer (sit upright, feet flat, screen at eye level). Ask: Why is each position important? Learners answer in pairs using sentences like 'Sitting upright prevents back pain.'
  • 2Show learners a checklist on the projector titled 'Health and Safety Checklist for Computer Use.' Learners tick off five items they will do tomorrow (take breaks every, adjust screen brightness, sit with good posture, keep wrists straight, blink regularly). Ask three learners to share one item they will practise
Exercise
  • 1Describe two computing-related disorders and state one preventive measure for each. Write your answer in one paragraph (4–5 sentences) in their exercise books.
