- 1Recall the names of at least three social media apps or websites that learners have heard of or use
- 2Ask learners: What apps or websites do you use to share pictures or watch videos with friends? Allow 30 seconds for whisper answers to a partner, then ask three volunteers to call out one app each. Write their responses on the board (e.g. WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram)

- TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA: PHOTO SHARING AND VIDEO SHARING PLATFORMS
- 1Display the textbook page on the projector showing examples of photo-sharing sites (Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest) and video-sharing sites (YouTube, Facebook Live, Periscope, Vimeo). Read aloud: Instagram is used to share photos and short videos. Snapchat lets you send disappearing messages with photos. Pinterest helps you save and share pictures of ideas. YouTube is the largest video-sharing platform where anyone can upload videos. Ask learners to repeat the name of each platform chorally three times as you point to it on the projector. Let learners work in pairs to keep all learners involved
- 2Distribute the Learners Resource Pack to each pair. Instruct pairs to find the table that lists photo-sharing and video-sharing platforms. Each pair underlines the platforms they recognise or have heard of. Call on one representative from each group to share one platform they underlined. Record a tick mark next to each platform named to show how many learners recognise it
- 3Struggling learners: work with a partner and identify only three platforms (one photo-sharing, two video-sharing). Fast finishers: create a simple two-column chart in their exercise book labelling Photo Sharing and Video Sharing, then list the platforms under the correct heading. Use pair or group support to manage the large class.

- 1Ask learners to stand and move to one side of the classroom if they use a photo-sharing app, or the other side if they use a video-sharing app (without naming a specific platform). Ask: Who is standing on each side? Why did you choose that side? Take three responses and affirm their choices
- 2Display all seven platform names on the board one more time using the projector. Learners whisper to their partner which one they would use to upload a long video tutorial about making waakye. Listen to three pairs explain their choice (YouTube or Facebook Live are correct answers). Confirm: Video-sharing platforms are best for long videos
Exercise
- 1Write down the names of three social media platforms — two for sharing photos and one for sharing videos. Next to each name, write one thing you can do on that platform in their exercise books.

|
- 1Recall the names and basic functions of common social media platforms used in Ghana
- 2Ask learners: Which social media apps do you see people in your community using most often on their phones? Invite three learners to name one app each aloud; write each name on the board
|
- CLASSIFYING SOCIAL MEDIA BY FUNCTION
- 1Using the projector and textbook, display a chart with three columns: Photo Sharing, Video Sharing, Social Networking. Name each platform aloud (Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook Live, Periscope, Vimeo) and explain its primary function in one sentence each. Learners copy the platform name into the correct column in their exercise books. Let learners work in pairs to keep all learners involved
- 2Organise the class into six pairs. Assign each pair one platform: two pairs get photo sharing sites (Instagram, Snapchat), two pairs get video sharing sites (YouTube, Facebook Live), and two pairs get social networking platforms. Each pair must write down two features of their assigned platform (e.g., Instagram: filters, photo posts). A representative from each pair reads their platform name and one feature aloud while you tick it on the board chart. Use Computer/Laptop during the task
- 3Struggling learners: work in mixed-ability pairs and use the textbook definitions provided. Fast finishers: identify which platform is most popular in Ghana and explain why. Use pair or group support to manage the large class.

- 2Projector
- 3Textbook
- 4Internet connection
|
- 1Learners stand and form two circles (inner and outer). Inner circle names a social media platform; outer circle responds with its function. Rotate every 10 seconds until all platforms are covered
- 2Ask: Why is it important to know the difference between these platforms? Invite two learners to share one reason each (e.g., choosing the right tool for the right task, online safety awareness)
Exercise
- 1Write the name of three social media platforms: one for sharing photos, one for sharing videos, and one for general social networking. Next to each, write one sentence explaining how it is used in their exercise books.
