- 1Recall the names of social media platforms learners have heard of or used at home or in their community
- 2Ask learners: Which online platforms do you or your family use to share photos or watch videos? Take 5 quick answers and write the platform names on the board (accept: Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, TikTok, Facebook)
|
- IDENTIFYING PHOTO-SHARING AND VIDEO-SHARING SITES
- 1Display the projector on a prepared slide showing six social media platform logos and names: Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook Live, and Vimeo. Read each name aloud and ask learners to repeat chorally three times. Then explain clearly: Photo-sharing sites let people upload and share pictures (Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest). Video-sharing sites let people upload and watch videos (YouTube, Facebook Live, Vimeo)
- 2Divide the class into two groups: Group A (Photo-Sharing) and Group B (Video-Sharing). Write the six platform names on separate pieces of paper and distribute them randomly. Each group must sort their cards into the correct category using the definitions just taught. One representative from each group shares their sorted list with the class and explains one choice
- 3Struggling learners: work with only three platforms (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook) and teacher guides the sorting. Fast finishers: add two more platforms (Periscope, TikTok) and explain which category they belong in.

- 1Computer/Laptop
- 2Projector
- 3Internet connection
- 4Prepared slide with six social media logos and names
- 5Cut-up paper cards with platform names
- 6Picture card of phone/computer
|
- 1Ask learners to stand if they can name a photo-sharing site, and sit if they can name a video-sharing site. Call on three standing learners and three sitting learners to state their answer aloud
- 2Display the six platform names again on the projector. Ask learners to whisper their answer to their partner: Is Instagram a photo-sharing or video-sharing site? Then confirm: Instagram is photo-sharing
Exercise
- 1Write on the board: Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat. Learners write in their exercise books which category each belongs to (Photo-sharing or Video-sharing) and give one reason why (e.g. Instagram = Photo-sharing because people share pictures there)

|
- 1Recall the names and purposes of common social media platforms discussed in Day 1
- 2Show learners five quick images on the Projector: Instagram logo, YouTube play button, Snapchat ghost, Facebook Live icon, and Pinterest pin symbol. Ask: Which of these did we talk about yesterday? Learners raise hands to name each platform
|
- CLASSIFYING SOCIAL MEDIA INTO PHOTO AND VIDEO SHARING CATEGORIES
- 1Display the seven platforms (Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook Live, Periscope, Vimeo) using the Projector. Create two columns on the board labeled 'Photo Sharing' and 'Video Sharing.' Ask learners to whisper their classification to a partner, then invite one representative from each group to come and place each platform name under the correct heading. Confirm: Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest go under Photo Sharing; YouTube, Facebook Live, Periscope, Vimeo go under Video Sharing
- 2Open a Computer/Laptop and demonstrate Instagram's photo grid layout (or show a screenshot if live internet is unavailable). Point out: users upload images, add filters, and share with followers. Then show YouTube's video feed and explain: users upload, watch, and comment on videos. Ask learners to write in their exercise books: one reason why Instagram is a photo site and one reason why YouTube is a video site
- 3Struggling learners: provide a pre-made table with platform names already listed; they only need to tick the correct category. Fast finishers: ask them to identify one additional platform (e.g., TikTok) and classify it based on its primary content type.

|
- 1Ask learners to hold up their exercise books showing their one-sentence explanations from the main activity. Select a learner who found this easy to read their response aloud and explain to the class
- 2Learners work in pairs and create a quick mental checklist: 'If a site lets me upload pictures mainly, it's _____. If a site lets me upload videos mainly, it's _____.' Pairs whisper their answers to each other to consolidate
Exercise
- 1Write the name of one photo sharing platform and one video sharing platform on your paper. Next to each, write one sentence explaining why it belongs in that category in their exercise books.
