  • 1Recall the four major types of data threats and identify their basic definitions
  • 2Ask learners: If Ama sends a confidential message to Kofi via email, what could go wrong on the way? Learners whisper their ideas to a partner
  • UNDERSTANDING THE FOUR MAJOR DATA THREATS
  • 1Display a table on the projector with four rows labelled Interruption, Interception, Modification, and Fabrication. For each threat, show a 30-second real-world scenario: Interruption—Yakubu's bank transfer message never reaches the server. Interception—Fuseini's password is captured by a hacker during login. Modification—Amina's test score email is changed from 85 to 45 in transit. Fabrication—A fake message pretends to be from the school office asking for student fees. Learners copy the table and one-word definition for each in their exercise books
  • 2Ask learners to work in pairs: Match each threat to why it happens. Provide sentence starters on the textbook page: 'Interruption happens because.', 'Interception happens because.' etc. Pairs discuss and write one sentence per threat. Call on one representative from each pair to read their Interruption definition aloud; repeat for the other three threats
  • 3Struggling learners: Provide a pre-completed definition card for two threats; they complete only Interception and Fabrication. Fast finishers: Write a fifth threat they think could harm data and explain why.
  • 1Computer/Laptop
  • 2Projector
  • 3Textbook
  • 4Internet connection
  • 1Project a scenario: Dela sends GH₵500 via MoMo, but it never arrives at Sena's account. Ask the class to shout out which threat this is and why. Confirm it is Interruption because the message was blocked, not intercepted or changed
  • 2Learners give a thumbs up if they can now describe all four threats, a thumbs sideways if they need more practice, or thumbs down if they need help. Acknowledge each group briefly
Exercise
  • 1Write one sentence to describe what happens to data in each of these two scenarios: (1) A student's exam result is read by an unauthorised person during transmission. (2) A school announcement is changed to say the wrong exam date. Name the threat for each in their exercise books.
