  • 1Learners will identify the key features and tools of MS Publisher software for creating professional documents
  • 2Display three sample flyers (printed or on projector) from Ghanaian businesses—a chop bar menu flyer, a seamstress advertisement, and a music event invitation. Ask learners: Which one catches your eye first and why?
  • EXPLORING MS PUBLISHER TOOLS AND TEMPLATES
  • 1Open MS Publisher on the computer and display it via projector. Navigate to File > New and show learners three built-in templates: a business card template, a flyer template, and an invitation card template. Point to each template on screen and name it aloud. Ask learners to whisper to a partner which template they would use to advertise a trotro service or a local market event
  • 2Click on the flyer template and show learners the main editing area with placeholder text and image boxes. Demonstrate dragging the text box titled 'Headline' and resizing it. Explain: Text boxes and image boxes are the building blocks of Publisher documents. Ask learners to raise their hand if they can spot where the business name should go and where pictures should go on the template
  • 3Struggling learners should focus on identifying template parts only; do not require them to create yet.
  • 1Computer/Laptop with MS Publisher installed
  • 2Projector
  • 3Textbook (Computing Curriculum)
  • 4Internet connection
  • 5Sample printed flyers (chop bar, seamstress, event advertisement)
  • 1Ask a volunteer to come forward and name one tool they saw in MS Publisher (text box, image box, template). Repeat the name with the class chorally three times
  • 2Learners write or draw in their exercise books one element they would include in their own Publisher flyer (e.g. business name, picture of food, phone number)
Exercise
  • 1Open a blank Publisher flyer template on the computer and ask learners to identify and name two different tools or placeholder boxes visible on screen. Ask: What information would you put in the largest text box at the top? in their exercise books.
