Lesson Activities by Day

|
- 1Identify modern trends that influence the selection and enstoolment/enskinement of chiefs and queenmothers in Ghanaian communities
- 2Ask: Wobɔ ɔhemaa anaa ɔhene wɔ mo mpɔtam mu no — ɔdeɛ wɔfaa no yɛ adeɛ foforɔ anaa adeɛ akɔfiri? (Is your chief/queenmother selected differently today than long ago?). Learners whisper answers to their partner

- MODERN TRENDS IN CHIEFTAINCY SELECTION
- 1Write on board: Sika (money), Sekan (politics), Nkutoo (education), Ɔman dwuma (national work). Read aloud; learners repeat chorally three times. Open Textbook page 47 and read the paragraph about monetary influence in enstoolment together
- 2Using the Audio recording track 12, play the dialogue between Kwame and Ama discussing how 'sika' and 'sekan' now affect chief selection in their village. Learners listen and note 3 trends they hear in their exercise books
- 3Divide class into pairs. Each pair compares one modern trend (money, politics, education, national service) with the old way of choosing chiefs. Ask: Ɛdeɛ yɛ bɔnɔ? Ɛdeɛ yɛ pa? (What is bad? What is good?). One representative from each pair shares their comparison using the sentence frame: 'Aboɔ no, _____ na _____, nanso, ɔwɔ hɔ ɛnna _____.'

- 2A volunteer comes forward and summarises in Akan one modern trend that affects enstoolment; the class repeats the summary chorally to confirm
Exercise
- 1Explain in Akan (2–3 sentences): Sɛ wɔrɛ wo akokuo no ohemaa a, sika ne sekan bɛma deɛ wɔfaa no yɛ nkɔso anaa ɛbɛyɛ ɔhaw? Why? (If your town were selecting a queenmother, would money and politics make the choice better or harder? Why?) in their exercise books.
