  • 1Identify different types of plant and animal associations found in Ghanaian landforms
  • 2Show learners pictures of a crocodile and a bird on the riverbank; ask: What do you think this bird is doing near the crocodile's teeth?
  • TYPES OF ASSOCIATIONS IN DIFFERENT LANDFORMS
  • 1Display the Chart/diagram showing three associations: mutualism (oxpecker cleaning crocodile's teeth), parasitism (mistletoe plant on tree), commensalism (remora fish on shark). Point to each and explain the nature of the relationship using the textbook definition of each term
  • 2Ask learners: In Ghana's wetlands, what happens between the plover bird and crocodile? Learners record one word describing the benefit in their exercise book
  • 3Show the Science kit/specimens (dried mistletoe or picture): This plant lives on trees in Ghana's forests. Does the tree benefit? Learners discuss with a partner whether this is fair or unfair
  • 1Textbook
  • 2Science kit/specimens
  • 3Chart/diagram
  • 4Exercise book
  • 1Select a learner to name one association and a landform in Ghana where it is found; class repeats the answer chorally
  • 2Learners draw a simple diagram in their exercise book showing one plant-animal association and label it as helpful, harmful, or one-sided
Exercise
  • 1Name one association between plants and animals, explain whether it is mutualism, parasitism, or commensalism, and give one Ghanaian example of where it occurs in their exercise books.
