  • 1Identify different types of sustainable energy choices and their basic purposes
  • 2Display images of solar panels on Ghanaian homes and wind turbines; ask learners: What do you see? What do you think these devices do?
  • SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
  • 1Write on board: Solar energy, Wind energy, Hydroelectric power, Biogas. Using the Textbook, read aloud one paragraph describing how solar energy works in Ghana. Learners copy the definition into exercise books
  • 2Show the Chart/diagram displaying greenhouse gas emissions and renewable energy comparison. Ask: Which energy type produces no smoke or gas? Learners point to the answer and explain to their partner
  • 3Learners use the Science kit/specimens (or picture cards of solar cells) to handle and observe the equipment; discuss in pairs how it captures energy without burning fuel
  • 1Textbook
  • 2Science kit/specimens
  • 3Chart/diagram (greenhouse gas and renewable energy comparison)
  • 4Exercise book
  • 1Ask three volunteers to each name one sustainable energy choice and one benefit; class repeats chorally
  • 2Learners draw a quick sketch in exercise books of one renewable energy source they learned about today and label it
Exercise
  • 1Name two sustainable energy choices used to protect the environment and explain in one sentence why each one does not harm the air in their exercise books.
