  • 1Identify simple machines and levers used in everyday Ghanaian life
  • 2Show learners a crowbar, a seesaw picture, and a bottle opener; ask them to name which tools they have seen at home or in the market
  • TYPES AND FUNCTIONS OF LEVERS
  • 1Using the Science kit/specimens, show a real crowbar and explain the three lever classes: first class (fulcrum in the middle like a seesaw), second class (load in the middle like a nut cracker), third class (effort in the middle like scissors). Draw and label each on the Chart/diagram
  • 2Learners copy the three lever diagrams into their Exercise books and label the fulcrum, effort, and load for each class
  • 3Ask learners to identify a tool from their home or Makola Market for each lever class: Kofi finds a crowbar (first class), Ama identifies a wheelbarrow (second class), Kwame points out tongs (third class)
  • 1Science kit/specimens (crowbar, seesaw model, nut cracker, scissors, tongs)
  • 2Chart/diagram showing three lever classes with labels
  • 3Textbook showing lever examples
  • 4Exercise books
  • 1Learners stand and mime using a seesaw (first class), a bottle opener (second class), and chopsticks (third class) while others guess the lever type
  • 2Ask one representative from each ability group to state one function of levers: making work easier, reducing effort, or moving heavy objects
Exercise
  • 1Name the type of lever used when a farmer opens a coconut with a machete and a fulcrum log, then describe how the fulcrum helps reduce effort in their exercise books.
