  • 1Recall what energy is and identify sources of energy in everyday Ghanaian life
  • 2Ask learners: What powers a trotro engine, a mobile phone charger, and a kerosene lamp? Learners whisper answers to their partner
  • ENERGY CONSERVATION: WHAT IT MEANS AND WHY IT MATTERS
  • 1Display the Textbook page on energy conservation. Read aloud: Energy conservation means using less energy to do the same job. Ask: How does Ama save electricity by using a solar lantern instead of a kerosene lamp? Learners write one sentence in exercise books
  • 2Use the Science kit/specimens to show a rechargeable battery and a disposable battery. Explain: A rechargeable battery conserves resources because we use it many times instead of throwing it away. Ask: Why is this better for Ghana's future?
  • 3Pairs discuss: Name three ways your family conserves energy at home (turning off lights, using firewood instead of charcoal, solar water heaters). One representative from each pair shares one example with the class. Use Textbook during the task.

  • 2Science kit/specimens
  • 3Chart/diagram
  • 4Exercise book
  • 1Learners stand and mime three actions that conserve energy (turning off a switch, closing a window, walking instead of using a trotro). Class guesses each action
  • 2Ask: If every family in Ghana conserved energy like Kofi's family, what would happen to Ghana's fuel costs and air quality? Learners discuss in pairs
Exercise
  • 1Write one complete sentence: Describe one way you will conserve energy this week and explain how it helps Ghana in their exercise books.
