  • 1Recall and name materials they see and use in their daily life at home and school
  • 2Ask learners: What did you eat breakfast from this morning? What is your school uniform made of? Call on volunteers to shout out answers chorally (metal plate, plastic cup, cotton textile). Write 3–4 answers on the chalkboard and circle them
  • OBSERVING AND NAMING MATERIALS AROUND US
  • 1Take learners on a guided walk around the school compound (playground, wall, gate area). Ask them to spot and point to different materials: Where is wood? Where is metal? Where is stone? Where is glass? Learners collect one safe, small item each (a stick, a stone, a leaf, a piece of soil in a container). Return to class and place all collected items on a table
  • 2Using the textbook page on materials diversity, ask learners to match each collected item with the material name shown in the book. Call on pairs to hold up their item and name it aloud (e.g., 'This is wood.' 'This is soil.'). Write the eight material names on the chalkboard in a list: Metal, Wood, Plastic, Soil, Glass, Textile, Water, Stone. Learners copy this list into their exercise books and draw a quick sketch of one collected item next to its name
  • 3Struggling learners: pair with a confident peer and focus on naming only 4 materials (metal, wood, stone, soil). They do not need to write the full list.
  • 1Textbook (Integrated Science, Materials page)
  • 2Exercise books
  • 3Chalkboard
  • 4Collected items (stone, stick, soil, leaf, plastic bottle, metal spoon, cloth scrap, container for water)
  • 1Arrange learners in a circle with their collected materials in the centre. Ask: What did we find? Which materials are hard? Which are soft? Which are shiny? Learners point and name aloud in a round-robin style (each learner names one material)
  • 2Ask: Where else do you see metal in your home? What about plastic? Learners think–pair–share with the person next to them, then a volunteer from each pair shares one example with the class
Exercise
  • 1Open your exercise book. Write the names of three materials you found on the playground. Next to each name, draw a small picture of something made from that material (e.g., wood — a chair; metal — a key; stone — a brick). You have
