- IDENTIFYING AND TRANSLATING NOUNS, PRONOUNS AND ADJECTIVES IN AKAN
- 1Write on the board: Ama din de Ama. Ɔ yɛ ɔbaa kɔkɔ. Ɔ wɔ bɔ wɔ sukuu no mu. Using the Textbook example page, read each sentence aloud. Underline abɔdeε (Ama, ɔbaa, sukuu) in one colour, ɔkamfo (ɔ) in another, and suabɔ (kɔkɔ) in a third. Ask: Sɛ yeisom no din de English, ɔbea kɔkɔ no din de ade? Invite a confident learner to translate the full sentence: Ama is a girl. She is red/beautiful. She is in school
- 2Distribute Exercise books and Audio recordings. Play the audio with five short Akan noun phrases: nwisieso kɔkɔ (red book), ɔpanin ɔdenkyɛm (old man), mma a wɔn din de Kwesi ne Ebo (children named Kwesi and Ebo). Learners write each phrase in their Exercise book, then draw a line to match: abɔdeε, suabɔ, abɔdeε. Pairs check each other's work. A volunteer from each group shares one match with the class
- 3Struggling learners work with the first two phrases only and sort them into picture categories (nouns = things, pronouns = he/she, adjectives = colours/sizes). Fast finishers create one new phrase using the pattern: abɔdeε + suabɔ (e.g. sɛɛ duu = big stone) and present to a partner.

- 1Display the five words from the starter again: abɔde, ɔbarima, kɔkɔ, aduana, me. Learners stand and sort themselves into three groups by word type (nouns, pronouns, adjectives) based on the cards you distribute. Each group repeats their word and its English translation three times chorally
- 2Ask: Yei so, munhu se enhu suabɔ a ɛfra abɔdeε no no? (Today, did you see how adjectives describe nouns?) Show one example: sukuu — abɔde. Sukuu a ɛyɛ akɛseε — abɔde + suabɔ. Learners whisper their own example to their partner

- TRANSLATING NOUNS, PRONOUNS AND ADJECTIVES IN SIMPLE SENTENCES
- 1Open the Textbook to the word list for Day 2. Read aloud three sentences: 'Ama is a teacher. She is kind. The school is big.' Write each on the board. Learners copy into their exercise books and underline the noun, circle the pronoun and box the adjective in each sentence using different colours. Check one sentence together: 'Ama' (noun, underlined), 'is' (verb), 'teacher' (noun), 'She' (pronoun), 'kind' (adjective), 'school' (noun), 'big' (adjective)
- 2In pairs, learners translate each of the three sentences into Akan using the Textbook word list. Write on the board: 'Ama yɛ ɔkrafoↄ. Ɔno yɛ dɔ. Sukuu no yɛ akɛseɛ.' Pairs check their own work against the board version. Ask one representative from each pair to read aloud one translated sentence. Weaker learners work with only the first sentence and copy the translation directly from the board before moving to pairing
- 3Struggling learners focus on the first sentence only and work with teacher support to identify parts of speech before translating.

- 1Learners stand in a circle. Call out an English noun or adjective (e.g. 'small', 'father', 'happy'). First three learners to whisper the Akan equivalent to you get a tick on the class list. Repeat five times with different words
- 2Ask learners to sit and show thumbs up if they found translating adjectives easy, thumbs down if they found it hard, thumbs sideways if they found it medium. Acknowledge all three groups and tell learners they will practise adjectives more in Day 3
