  • 1Recall the key movement principles (positioning, spacing, passing) used in invasion sports
  • 2Ask learners to name three invasion sports they know and discuss one rule for each sport in pairs
  • APPLYING MOVEMENT PRINCIPLES IN A SMALL-SIDED INVASION GAME
  • 1Divide the class into four groups of mixed ability. Using the chalkboard, draw a simple pitch diagram showing three key positions (attack, midfield, defence). Assign each group a position and explain: good spacing means players are not too close together. Learners stand in their positions on the court and practise holding their space while a partner passes a basketball to them
  • 2In the same groups, play a 3v3 football match on a reduced pitch (mark with cones). Instruct: use two-touch maximum before passing to enforce quick decision-making. Observe and note one example of good positioning per group in your exercise book
  • 3Rotate groups through two more 3v3 matches (handball or basketball) on the same reduced pitch. Each time, emphasize a different principle: first rotation = staying spread out; second rotation = moving into space to receive the ball. Record in the textbook which sport and principle you observed working best

  • 1Ask one representative from each group to demonstrate one movement principle they used during their match to the class
  • 2Learners whisper to their partner one thing they will do differently in the next invasion sports lesson to improve their positioning
Exercise
  • 1In your exercise book, write or draw how you would position yourself and one teammate to receive a pass safely in a 3v2 invasion game
