  • 1Recall the basic rules and positioning requirements of a simple invasion sport
  • 2Display a picture of football players on the chalkboard; ask learners to identify which team has the ball and explain how they know
  • APPLYING MOVEMENT CONCEPTS IN SMALL-SIDED FOOTBALL
  • 1Divide the class into two teams of 6–8 learners each. Explain using the textbook diagram: players must use space (spread out), maintain relationship to the ball (face it), and adjust speed based on distance to goal. Draw the court layout on the chalkboard showing attacking zones
  • 2First game: teams play possession drill where passing must occur within a small zone; coach one team to recognize when to move into open space (decision-making). Record observations in your exercise book: which team moved into space faster?
  • 3Second game: introduce adapted rule—no running with the ball, only passing allowed. Ask learners to analyse why this rule forces better decision-making about timing and positioning. Use Textbook (invasion sports diagrams) during the task.
  • 1Textbook (invasion sports diagrams)
  • 2Exercise book
  • 3Chalkboard
  • 4Football
  • 5Cones or markers for court boundaries
  • 1One volunteer from each team explains one decision they made during the game and how they chose where to move based on ball position
  • 2Learners rate themselves on a scale 1–5 (using fingers) on how well they applied spacing and positioning concepts during play
Exercise
  • 1In your exercise book, describe one moment when you applied the concept of space or relationship to the ball to make a good decision in the game
