  • 1Recall descriptive words and greetings used in familiar Ghanaian social situations
  • 2Show learners a picture of a Ghanaian naming ceremony. Ask: What words can you use to describe how people feel at this event? Learners call out one word each (happy, excited, proud, blessed)
  • USING DESCRIPTIVE WORDS FOR DIFFERENT SITUATIONS
  • 1Display a poster showing four Ghanaian situations: Kofi greeting his grandmother at home, Ama at Makola Market buying vegetables, Yakubu at a funeral, and children playing football at school. Using the Textbook, read aloud example sentences for each scene (e.g., 'Kofi greeted his grandmother respectfully' and 'The market is busy and noisy'). Learners repeat the descriptive phrases chorally three times and write one descriptive word for each situation in their Exercise books
  • 2Organise learners into pairs. Distribute Reading materials with short descriptions of five Ghanaian events (naming ceremony, market day, wedding, school sports day, village gathering). Each pair reads one description using the Dictionary to check unfamiliar words, then identifies and lists three descriptive words that match the event. Ask one representative from each pair to share their three words with the class
  • 3Struggling learners: work with the first two situations only and copy descriptive words directly from the poster. Fast finishers: create one new sentence describing a situation not on the poster.

  • 5Poster with four Ghanaian situations
  • 6Image of village festival
  • 1Organise learners into three groups. Each group selects one Ghanaian social situation from the poster and performs a 30-second role-play showing that situation. The class watches and calls out descriptive words they hear or see during each performance
  • 2Ask learners to think of one event they attended recently (naming day, market visit, funeral, school event). Learners whisper their chosen event to their partner, who responds by saying two descriptive words they associate with it. Pairs swap roles
Exercise
  • 1Show learners a new image of a Ghanaian village festival with many people dancing and celebrating. Learners write three different descriptive sentences in their Exercise books using at least one new word they learned today to describe the situation or the people (e.g., 'The festival is colourful and joyful. The dancers are energetic. The music is loud and exciting.')
