  • 1Identify behaviours that show a family member is committed to their family
  • 2Ask learners: What does it mean when someone is committed to something? Accept responses (staying loyal, doing tasks well, not giving up). Write the word COMMITMENT on the board
  • BEHAVIOURS OF A COMMITTED FAMILY MEMBER
  • 1Display the videos and pictures showing different family scenes (a child helping a parent, a young person respecting an elder, a family member performing assigned duties). Ask learners to name one behaviour they see in each scene. Guide them to use words like: obeys, helps, respects, does their duties, takes care of others. Write five behaviours on the board: takes part in family activities, obeys elders, respects family members, accepts responsibility, helps needy relatives
  • 2Learners work in pairs and choose one behaviour from the list. Each pair acts out (mimes or role-plays) that behaviour for 30 seconds without speaking. Other learners guess which behaviour is being shown. After each mime, ask: Why is this behaviour important in a family? Learners respond chorally or in pairs
  • 3Struggling learners: provide a visual chart showing the five behaviours with simple drawings; pair them with a stronger learner to mime their chosen behaviour together.

  • 2Pictures of different family scenes (cooking, farming, caring, helping)
  • 3Flipchart or whiteboard
  • 4Exercise books
  • 1Ask learners to sit in a circle. Go around the circle and ask each learner (or every other learner if time is tight) to name one way they show commitment in their own family right now. Accept all respectful answers
  • 2Learners give a thumbs-up signal if they agree with this statement: A committed family member helps the family stay united and happy. Ask two or three learners who gave thumbs-up to explain why they agree
Exercise
  • 1Describe a committed family member you know (real or from a story). Write two things they do that show they are committed and one reason why their commitment is important to the family. (Learners write 2–3 sentences in their exercise books.)
