  • 1Recall the basic rules and equipment used in stick and ball sports such as cricket, tsasikele, softball and rounders
  • 2Show learners a cricket bat and soft ball; ask: What sport uses these? Learners call out names of stick and ball sports they know
  • DEMONSTRATING BASIC GRIP, STANCE AND SWING TECHNIQUE
  • 1Using the textbook diagram on page 45, show learners the correct grip for holding a cricket bat or rounders stick; learners copy the grip standing in their own space
  • 2Ask a confident learner to demonstrate the ready stance (feet apart, knees bent) on the chalkboard area while others imitate; call on another learner to show the basic swing motion for hitting a stationary ball
  • 3Pairs take turns: one partner holds a soft ball at waist height, the other applies the grip and swing without hitting, then switch roles
  • 1Textbook (Physical Education and Health, page 45)
  • 2Exercise book
  • 3Chalkboard
  • 4Cricket bat or rounders stick
  • 5Soft ball
  • 1Learners stand and mime the complete action: grip → stance → swing; repeat three times chorally
  • 2Ask a volunteer to name one rule from tsasikele or rounders and explain why that rule keeps the game safe
Exercise
  • 1Using your exercise book, draw and label the three parts of a cricket or rounders batting technique (grip, stance, swing) that you demonstrated today
