  • 1Identify main ideas from a spoken Ghanaian language text by listening carefully and recalling what was heard
  • 2Ask learners: What do you hear when Makola Market traders call out their goods early in the morning? Learners whisper their answers to their partner, then two volunteers share their responses aloud
  • LISTENING TO A GHANAIAN TEXT AND IDENTIFYING KEY POINTS
  • 1Play the audio recording from the Textbook (a dialogue between Kofi and Ama discussing a community market visit). Learners listen once without writing. Then distribute the Exercise book and ask them to write three words or short phrases they heard that tell what the text was about. One representative from each group of three shares their list aloud
  • 2Play the same audio recording a second time. This time, learners listen for the answer to: Where did Kofi and Ama go? What did they buy? Why were they happy? After listening, pairs compare their answers in the Exercise book and a learner from a pair that finished first brings their book to show the teacher their responses
  • 3Struggling learners: provide a visual picture of a market scene before listening so they connect the audio to familiar context. Fast finishers: listen again and write one additional opinion about whether Kofi and Ama made good choices.
  • 1Textbook (dialogue script and audio recording)
  • 2Audio recordings (Kofi and Ama market dialogue)
  • 3Exercise book
  • 1Ask the class: Did you enjoy this story about Kofi and Ama? Show thumbs up if yes, thumbs down if no. Call on three learners (mix of boys and girls who have not yet spoken) to explain their thumb choice in one or two sentences
  • 2Learners turn to their neighbour and say one thing they will remember about the market visit in the story. Ask a volunteer to share what their partner said
Exercise
  • 1Learners write in their Exercise book: What was one important thing that happened in the story about Kofi and Ama at the market? Write at least two sentences explaining why it was important
