  • 1Recall what happens to human health when air and water are polluted
  • 2Ask learners: What do you breathe every day? (pause for responses). Write 'air' on the chalkboard. Then ask: Have you ever seen dirty water? Where? Learners share examples from their homes or community
  • UNDERSTANDING CLEAN AIR AND WATER FOR HEALTH
  • 1Write on the chalkboard: 'Clean air helps us breathe well. Clean water keeps us healthy.' Read this aloud together three times. Ask: What happens if air is very dusty? (Learners raise hands and respond—expect answers like coughing, difficulty breathing). Write their ideas on the chalkboard beside the sentence
  • 2Open the textbook to the section on clean water and sanitation. Read one paragraph aloud. Ask learners to identify in their exercise books two ways dirty water can make someone ill (e.g., stomach pain, diarrhoea). Collect three exercise books to check understanding. Struggling learners: work with the teacher on one example only before writing in their book
  • 3For struggling learners, provide sentence starters: 'Dirty water causes _____' or 'Clean air stops us from _____.' Fast finishers may list three effects of each.
  • 1Textbook
  • 2Exercise book
  • 3Chalkboard
  • 1Ask the class: Show me with your fingers (1–5) how sure you are that clean water is important for health. Discuss: Why did you choose that number? Take two volunteer responses
  • 2Learners stand and repeat chorally three times: 'Clean air and water keep me healthy.' Ask: Who will help keep our school environment clean starting today? Hands up. Affirm their commitment
Exercise
  • 1Write in your exercise book: Name one thing that happens to your body if you drink dirty water, and one thing that happens if you breathe dusty air. Explain why each is bad for your health in one sentence
