  • 1Learners will identify and name different types of food items from plants (fruits, vegetables, seeds)
  • 2Show learners a basket containing mixed fruits, vegetables, and seeds (banana, mango, carrot, spinach, groundnuts, maize kernels). Ask: What do you see in this basket? Learners shout out names of items they recognise
  • SORTING AND CLASSIFYING FOOD ITEMS INTO THREE GROUPS
  • 1Place three large circles drawn on the chalkboard, labelled FRUITS, VEGETABLES, and SEEDS. Invite learners to the front one at a time to pick an item from the basket and place it in the correct circle while saying the item name aloud. Use the textbook poster to guide correct classification if needed. Continue until all items are sorted into the three categories
  • 2Once all items are sorted, point to the FRUITS group and ask learners to count aloud together, touching each fruit as they count. Write the number on the chalkboard next to FRUITS. Repeat for VEGETABLES and SEEDS. Ask learners: Which group has the most? Which has the least? Learners answer by showing fingers or calling out
  • 3Struggling learners: pair with a stronger peer to help identify and place items. Count only fruits and vegetables first (skip seeds if necessary).
