  • 1Learners will identify five different plant parts and name one food item from each part
  • 2Show learners five picture cards of plant parts (root, stem, leaf, fruit, seed). Ask: Which part of the plant is this? Learners point to or name each part chorally
  • SORTING FOODS BY PLANT PARTS
  • 1Divide the board into five columns labelled with picture symbols: roots, stems, leaves, fruits, seeds. Show learners food items one at a time (cassava, cocoyam, yam, sugar cane, lettuce, garden eggs, pawpaw, coconut, melon seeds, maize kernels). Ask: Which plant part does this come from? Learners raise their hand and you write the food name in the correct column on the chalkboard
  • 2Give each learner the exercise book and draw or paste five food pictures (carrot, cucumber, cabbage, orange, beans). Learners draw or write the plant part name next to each food using the textbook as reference. Walk around and support learners who need help matching foods to plant parts
  • 3Struggling learners: provide only three foods to classify (carrot, mango, and maize). Use real objects or large picture cards to help them see the connection.

  • 5Real or picture food items (carrot, cassava, yam, sugar cane, lettuce, garden eggs, pawpaw, coconut, melon seeds, maize)
  • 1Ask: Show me with your fingers how many foods we sorted today that come from roots. Learners count on their fingers and hold up the number. Confirm: We found 3 root foods—carrot, cassava, cocoyam
  • 2Learners stand and you call out a plant part (e.g., 'fruits!'). Learners shout out one food item from that part they remember. Repeat for all five plant parts
Exercise
