  • 1Identify the size and height differences between two animals using visual observation
  • 2Show learners a picture of a cow and a chicken side by side on the chalkboard. Ask: Which animal is bigger? Learners raise their hands and say the animal name aloud together
  • COMPARING SIZE AND HEIGHT USING PICTURE CARDS
  • 1Display three animal pictures on the chalkboard: an elephant, a mouse, and a dog. Point to the elephant and mouse, then say aloud: 'The elephant is bigger than the mouse.' Write this sentence on the chalkboard for learners to see. Ask learners to repeat the sentence chorally three times, emphasizing the phrase 'bigger than'
  • 2Show a picture of a giraffe standing next to a zebra in the textbook. Say: 'The giraffe is taller than the zebra.' Write this sentence on the chalkboard and have learners copy it into their exercise books. Ask one learner to point to the taller animal while another learner reads the sentence aloud to the class. Struggling learners: use only two animal pictures and repeat the comparison phrase twice before writing
  • 3Struggling learners should work with one pair of animals (elephant and mouse) and repeat 'bigger than' five times before attempting the second activity.
  • 1Textbook
  • 2Exercise book

  • 4Animal picture cards (elephant, mouse, dog, cow, chicken, giraffe, lion, zebra, cat, ostrich)
  • 1Hold up two animal picture cards: a lion and a cat. Ask the class together: 'Is the lion bigger than the cat or is the cat bigger than the lion?' Learners respond chorally with the correct comparison phrase
  • 2Pairs compare their drawings of two animals by showing each other and saying one comparison sentence using 'bigger than' or 'taller than'. One volunteer pair shares their comparison with the whole class
