  • 1Recall positional words and identify where objects are located in the classroom
  • 2Ask learners: Where is the chalkboard in our classroom? Where is your friend Kofi sitting? Learners point and name the position aloud (front, back, side)
  • DESCRIBING POSITIONS USING POSITIONAL WORDS
  • 1Write the positional words on the chalkboard: in front of, behind, below, to the right, to the left. Point to each word and say it aloud; learners repeat chorally three times. Then place objects around the classroom (a book in front of the table, a stone below the chair, a stick to the right of the door) and ask learners to describe each position using the exercise book to copy one sentence example: 'The book is in front of the table.'
  • 2Select a learner to stand at the front of the class. Ask other learners: Where is Ama standing? (In front of us.) Ask: Who is behind Ama? Guide learners to name a classmate and say the positional sentence using the textbook's picture example if available, or create one on the chalkboard showing two children with clear position labels
  • 3Struggling learners: use only three positional words (in front of, behind, below) and match them to real objects in the classroom rather than write sentences.
  • 1Chalkboard
  • 2Exercise book
  • 3Textbook
  • 4Classroom objects (pencil, book, stone, stick, chair, table)
  • 1Learners stand and form a circle. Call out a position word (behind, to the right, in front of). Learners move to show that position relative to the child next to them and say the position word aloud together
  • 2Ask: Can objects move from one position to another? Learners answer yes and show one example: pushing a desk to the left, moving a chair behind another desk, or stepping in front of their friend Kwame
Exercise
  • 1Show learners two objects in different positions (a cup on the right side of a table and a stone below it). Ask: Tell me where the cup is and where the stone is. Use the words 'right' and 'below' in your answer. Write or draw your answer in your exercise book
