  • 1Identify words and phrases that express likes and dislikes in French from visual cues
  • 2Show pictures of food (jollof rice, banku, waakye) and sports (football, netball). Ask learners to point and say whether they like or dislike each item using gestures (thumbs up/down)
  • LISTENING TO REAL PREFERENCES
  • 1Play the audio recording from the Textbook twice: a 90-second conversation between Kofi and Ama discussing foods they like (jollof rice, plantain) and dislike (spinach soup). Learners listen silently first, then repeat key phrases chorally after playback. Let learners work in pairs to keep all learners involved
  • 2Show pictures of foods mentioned in the audio. Call on learners to match each picture with 'j'aime' or 'je n'aime pas' based on what they heard Kofi and Ama say. Let learners work in pairs to keep all learners involved
  • 3Ask comprehension questions using the Learners Resource Pack: 'Est-ce que Kofi aime le jollof rice?' Learners respond chorally: 'Oui!' or 'Non!' and show thumbs up/down. Let learners work in pairs to keep all learners involved
  • 1Textbook
  • 2Audio recordings
  • 3Pictures of food and sports
  • 4Exercise book
  • 5Learners Resource Pack
  • 1Learners work in pairs: one reads a preference statement from the Exercise book (e.g. 'J'aime le football'), the other repeats and says whether the statement matches Kofi or Ama from the audio
  • 2Whole class repeats the key phrases three times: 'J'aime… Je n'aime pas…' to consolidate pronunciation
Exercise
  • 1Play a short audio clip (15 seconds) of a new person saying three preferences. Learners write in their Exercise books whether that person likes or dislikes each item using the French words heard

  • 1Recall key French phrases for expressing likes and dislikes from Day 1
  • 2Display picture cards of food (banku, jollof rice, kelewele) on board; learners call out chorally what Kofi likes or dislikes based on facial expressions shown
  • PAIR DIALOGUE PRACTICE — SPEAKING LIKES AND DISLIKES
  • 1Pairs sit together; distribute textbook dialogues (pages with Je aime / Je n'aime pas sentences); learners read aloud to partner, swapping roles twice, using correct intonation
  • 2Using pictures from the textbook, one learner points to an image (plantain, cocoa drink, chichinga) and asks partner 'Tu aimes?' Partner responds with 'J'aime' or 'Je n'aime pas' plus the item name
  • 3Call on representatives from 5 different pairs to perform their dialogue in front of class (30 seconds each pair); class rates confidence on fingers 1–5. Use Textbook during the task
