  • 1Recall the meaning of destoolment and deskinment in Akan chieftaincy systems
  • 2Ask learners: Wɔtoo sika a, wɔtɔ dea ɔbu aban no ase? (When a stool is destooled, what does that mean?) — learners whisper answers to their partners
  • PROCESSES OF DESTOOLMENT AND DESKINMENT
  • 1Play the Audio recording of a narrative in Akan describing three steps: (i) Asɔkɔ wɔ ɔhene no so (Complaints about the chief), (ii) Ɔdekemfo no ka kyerɛ no (The kingmaker warns him), (iii) Wɔfrɛ no akɔ amane no anim (He is called for arbitration). Learners listen and mark each step in their Exercise books
  • 2Distribute Sentence cards with mixed-up process steps in Akan. Learners arrange them in correct order: Asɔkɔ → Kakyerɛkyerɛ → Amane. One representative from each group shares their ordered sequence
  • 3Write on the board: Abɔfo no ma asɛm a ɛwɔ ɔhene no so (The people report grievances against the chief). Ask: Dɛn nti? (Why?) — learners give two examples (e.g., Ɔrekakra abɔfo no — He is stealing from people; Ɔnnim nkɔso — He does not listen to advice). Use Textbook during the task.
  • 1Textbook
  • 2Audio recording (Akan narrative on destoolment)
  • 3Sentence cards (mixed process steps in Akan)
  • 4Exercise book
  • 1Call on volunteers to act out in Akan the three-step process: one learner states a complaint (Wɔrekakra abɔfo no), another delivers the kingmaker's warning (Ɔdekemfo no ka kyerɛ no se ɔyɛ dɛn), a third announces the arbitration (Wɔfrɛ no akɔ amane no anim)
  • 2Ask the class to show thumbs up if destoolment helps the people keep a good chief, or thumbs down if it harms respect for chieftaincy — learners discuss in pairs why they chose
Exercise
  • 1In Akan, write three steps in the order they happen when a chief is destooled: Kingmaker warns him, people complain, he goes for arbitration. Number them 1, 2, 3 in their exercise books.
