  • 1Recall the location of the Insert tab and identify where pictures can be added in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • 2Ask learners: Where do you find tools to add pictures in PowerPoint? Learners discuss with a partner, then a volunteer shares their answer with the class
  • EXPLORING THE IMAGES GROUP AND INSERTING PICTURES
  • 1Open Microsoft PowerPoint on the computer/laptop and navigate to the Insert tab. Click on the Images Group dropdown and demonstrate the three options: Pictures from This Device, Stock Images, and Screenshots. Ask learners: Which option would you use if the picture is saved on your computer? Take three responses from different learners and confirm the correct answer is Pictures from This Device
  • 2Guide learners in pairs to identify a local Ghanaian image on their device—for example, a photo of Makola Market or a family picture from Accra. Pairs take turns demonstrating to their partner how to navigate Insert > Images > Pictures from This Device on the textbook diagram or a shared screen, explaining each click aloud
  • 3Struggling learners: work with one pre-saved image file provided on the shared drive and follow the teacher's click-by-click steps. Fast finishers: explore the Stock Images option and describe what they see. Use pair or group support to manage the large class.
  • 1Computer/Laptop
  • 2Textbook
  • 1Call on one representative from every pair to state one step they took to insert a picture in PowerPoint. Learners repeat chorally the complete sentence: 'I click Insert, then Images, then Pictures from This Device.'
  • 2Ask: Raise your hand if you now feel confident finding the Images Group in the Insert tab. Ask a learner who raised their hand to explain to a learner who did not raise their hand why this skill is useful
Exercise
  • 1Write on the board: Ama wants to add a photo of her trotro trip from Cape Coast to her PowerPoint presentation. Name the tab she clicks first and the group where she finds the tool to add her picture in their exercise books.

  • 1Recall the location of the Illustrations group and identify the types of shapes available in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • 2Display a blank PowerPoint slide on the computer/laptop. Ask: Where do we find the Insert tab and what tools are under the Illustrations group? Learners raise hands and call out their answers; confirm Insert tab location and list the three tools: Shapes, SmartArt, and Pictures
  • DRAWING SHAPES AND ADDING TEXT IN POWERPOINT
  • 1Open the textbook and display Step 1 on the computer/laptop: Click Insert tab → Select Shapes from the Illustrations group → Choose a rectangle shape. Demonstrate on screen: draw a rectangle on the slide. Ask learners to follow along on their own devices or in pairs, drawing one rectangle. Monitor the first three pairs who finish and ask one to show their shape to the class
  • 2Demonstrate Step 2: Right-click the shape → Select Format Shape → Change fill colour to blue and outline to red. Guide learners through this step together. Then demonstrate adding text: Double-click inside the shape and type 'Makola Market' as an example. Learners practise by typing the name of their favourite Ghanaian food market inside their shape. Circulate and check at least 10 learners' work. Let learners work in pairs to keep all learners involved
  • 3Struggling learners: pair them with faster learners and provide a step-by-step printed checklist showing the menu paths (Insert → Shapes → rectangle → Format → change colour). Use pair or group support to manage the large class.
  • 1Computer/Laptop with Microsoft PowerPoint installed
  • 2Textbook (Learners Resource Pack)
  • 1Ask learners to hold up their screens or devices to show their completed shape with text. Invite a boy and a girl who have not yet contributed to describe their shape's colour and the text they added
  • 2Play a quick game: Call out 'Thumbs up if your shape has text inside it, thumbs down if it does not.' Tally the responses and praise the class for their effort on Day 2
Exercise
  • 1Learners draw one circle shape on a new slide, colour it green, and add the text 'Ghana Technology' inside it. Collect this as an exit task to assess their ability to apply all three steps (draw, format, add text) in their exercise books.
