  • 1Recall the key steps and roles involved in enstooling a chief or enskinning a northern chief
  • 2Ask learners: Akwadaa, wɔ de ɔhemaa anaa ɔhene wɔ mo abɔnten? Learners raise hands and respond chorally with Ɛnstoolment or Enskinment
  • THE ENSTOOLING PROCESS — SOUTHERN CHIEFTAINCY
  • 1Use the Textbook to read aloud the steps of enstooling: selection by elders, consultation with queen mother, presentation to people, swearing of oath on the stool. Learners follow in their own books and underline three main steps
  • 2Display Audio recording of a chief taking the oath of office (Asante or Fante context). Learners listen and identify in their Exercise books the three promises a chief makes (to protect the people, to respect the stool, to seek counsel from elders)
  • 3Pair activity: one learner whispers the role of the Akyeame (linguist) to their partner using the Word cards provided; partner repeats back in their own words
  • 1Textbook
  • 2Audio recordings
  • 3Exercise book
  • 4Word cards
  • 1Call on a learner to name the chair called Ɛnstool and explain why it is sacred; class confirms by nodding or saying Yoo
  • 2Learners compare with their partner: Is enstooling the same as enskinning? Partner responds with one difference (e.g., North uses skins, South uses stools)
Exercise
  • 1In one sentence (English instruction), explain in Akan: Ɛnstoolment ne Enskinment yɛ ade pii bi anaa ade korɔ bi? Ɛkyerɛ sɛnea wɔne se ade pii in their exercise books.
