  • 1Remember and identify nouns in a familiar Ghanaian market context
  • 2Show learners a picture of Makola Market and ask: What words name the things you see? (e.g. yam, trader, basket). Learners call out nouns chorally
  • IDENTIFYING AND SORTING NOUNS INTO THREE CATEGORIES
  • 1Display the textbook passage about Kwame's visit to Techiman Market on page (as per textbook). Read aloud together. Ask: Circle all the nouns you see. Learners work in exercise books
  • 2Draw three columns on the board labelled: COMMON NOUNS, PROPER NOUNS, COLLECTIVE NOUNS. Take the nouns learners identified (e.g. trader, Techiman, group) and sort them together using the audio recording pronunciation guide to confirm each word. Write examples: trader (common), Techiman (proper), group (collective)
  • 3Learners copy the three categories and examples into their exercise books and practise pronouncing each noun using the audio recordings provided
  • 1Textbook (market passage)
  • 2Audio recordings (pronunciation guide)
  • 3Exercise book
  • 4Chalkboard and chalk
  • 1Ask: Can you think of one common noun, one proper noun, and one collective noun from your own home or village? Learners whisper answers to their partner, then volunteers share aloud
  • 2Learners repeat the three noun types chorally three times: Common noun, proper noun, collective noun
Exercise
  • 1Write three nouns on the board: Ama, school, team. Learners categorise each one (common, proper, or collective) in their exercise books and write one sentence using each noun correctly

  • 1Identify and classify pronouns into their types (personal, possessive, demonstrative, relative) from a given passage
  • 2Display the sentence: 'Ama went to Makola Market. She bought tomatoes. Those are hers.' Ask learners to circle all the words that replace nouns and whisper their answers to a partner
  • CLASSIFYING PRONOUNS BY TYPE USING TEXTBOOK EXAMPLES
  • 1Read aloud the passage from the Textbook about Kwame's market visit. Learners identify all pronouns and list them in their Exercise books under four columns: Personal (I, you, he, she, it, we, they), Possessive (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs), Demonstrative (this, that, these, those), Relative (who, which, that)
  • 2Ask a learner who is confident to write one pronoun from each type on the board and state its category. Check accuracy with the class and correct any misplacements. Use Textbook (Ghanaian Language B7 passage on market visit) during the task
  • 3Learners construct two sentences using pronouns from at least two different categories: one about a family member and one about an object at home. Write sentences in Exercise books
  • 1Textbook (Ghanaian Language B7 passage on market visit)
  • 2Exercise books
  • 3Audio recordings (optional — model sentence pronunciation)
  • 1Pairs swap Exercise books and check each other's pronoun classifications using the column headings as a reference guide
  • 2Invite one representative from each pronoun type (personal, possessive, demonstrative, relative) to read their sentence aloud and confirm the pronoun type used
Exercise
  • 1Underline all pronouns in this sentence and write their type next to each one: 'When Yakubu went to the farm, he gave his tools to her because those were hers and this is mine.' in their exercise books.
